When an attacker gets too close for a strike, joint-locking techniques and takedowns become crucial. Many cultures have mastered immobilizing assailants by studying the body's major joints and their movements. Understanding each joint helps in effortlessly avoiding attacks and using minimal force to control the situation.
Our program appeals to those who prefer a circular approach to self-defense over striking. By blending with the attacker's force, one can redirect the situation with minimal effort. We focus on small joint manipulation and different projection techniques to neutralize threats effectively. Join us and learn how to control any situation with skill and finesse.
In many situations, joint-locking techniques may not be enough. It's often more effective to disrupt an attacker's balance by guiding them towards points of imbalance or using proper body mechanics to throw them to the ground. That's why we teach both joint locking and throwing techniques. A martial arts student should always be prepared to defend against any potential attack.
At Martial Arts Center of Austin, we emphasize understanding the physics and physiology behind martial arts. Concepts like leverage, torque, and momentum are discussed in detail. Instead of memorizing specific moves, students learn the basics so they can create endless offensive and defensive techniques. Mastering the basics opens up a world of possibilities, allowing students to combine techniques in unique ways to suit any situation. Join us and unlock your potential in martial arts!
We offer two distinct classes to cater to different training needs.
In our joint-locking/joint-lock-throwing class, we focus on self-defense and neutralization techniques. The class starts with rolls, falls, joint stretching, and body stretches, followed by joint locking and throwing drills. Students learn various locks from different positions, scenarios, and against multiple attackers.
In the body throwing and takedowns class, the focus shifts to throwing and takedown techniques. After warm-ups including rolls and falls, we practice throwing setups and hip throws. The class also covers clinch work, tie-ups, escapes, and takedowns. Whether you're interested in real-world self-defense or sport-style combat, this class offers valuable training for both. Join us and refine your skills in grappling and takedowns!
To the untrained observer, joint-locking and body throwing techniques may appear simple or lacking in combat effectiveness. However, to a trained expert, these methods are among the most efficient and powerful forms of self-defense. Unlike other techniques, executing joint locks and body throws doesn't require perfect physical condition or extensive warm-ups.
At Martial Arts Center of Austin, we specialize in advanced projection and immobilization techniques. Our Master Level Instructors are here to guide you through your training journey and answer any questions you may have.
