Austin Texas Jiujitsu & Catch Wrestling 寝技の日本柔術 - 侍の武術
Wrestling is believed to be one of the oldest forms of athletic activity, with its roots stretching back through history. Across species, grappling and wrestling serve as bonding activities within families, packs, and tribes, as well as for sports, health, and fitness. Even royalty and kings participated in wrestling, showcasing grappling performances for their royal courts. From ants to elephants, grappling and wrestling are practiced by creatures large and small.
The word "grapple" itself means "to struggle," reflecting the challenges we face in everyday life. Many people choose grappling and wrestling as their form of self-defense and exercise to prepare themselves for life's struggles. Join us and discover the timeless art of grappling, both as a physical activity and a metaphor for overcoming life's challenges.
We take great pride in being the only dojo in the Austin area that teaches both traditional Jujutsu/Jiujitsu, rooted in the techniques of the Samurai warriors of Japan, and the modern "ne waza" (groundwork/grappling techniques) of Jiujitsu descended from Kosen Judo.
At Martial Arts of Austin, we equip our students with hundreds of submission wrestling moves, including joint immobilization techniques and various methods of strangulation. We cover both gi grappling (using a uniform) and no-gi grappling (without a uniform), as both are essential for self-defense. Grappling with a uniform simulates confrontations where an opponent may be wearing thick clothing, while no-gi grappling prepares students for scenarios where opponents may have minimal clothing, such as at the beach.
Considering that over 90% of physical altercations end up on the ground, learning grappling skills is absolutely essential for effective self-defense. Join us and learn the art of grappling to defend yourself in any situation.
At Martial Arts of Austin, we offer comprehensive training in both sport-style grappling/wrestling and grappling for self-defense and combat. While grappling and submission wrestling have gained popularity as exciting sports in recent years, our school stands out for our instructors' extensive experience.
Many martial arts schools claim to teach grappling and submission wrestling, but their instructors often started training after the rise of "no-hold-barred" fighting in the last 15 years. While these instructors may be competent and well-trained, our instructors bring over 25 years of experience to the table. We provide training from seasoned experts who have been dedicated to the art of grappling for decades. Join us and learn from the best in the field!
At Martial Arts of Austin, we understand that grappling can be intimidating for some, especially when seeing how effectively a smaller person can defend against a larger opponent. However, we want to assure you that there's no need to worry. Our school operates under a strict policy of protocol and etiquette, fostering a zero-ego environment where everyone treats each other with respect.
For beginners, we provide thorough instruction in the fundamental basics of grappling before they engage in live training with a partner. Participation in grappling is entirely optional—there's never any pressure to participate if you're not comfortable. However, for those who wish to try grappling, opportunities are available at the end of class.
Grappling and wrestling offer exciting methods of self-defense and exercise. While other schools may focus on scoring points or winning tournaments, our primary focus is on preparing our students to protect themselves in real-life situations. Join us and discover the practical and effective art of grappling for self-defense.
At Martial Arts of Austin, our primary focus is on equipping our students with the skills to defend themselves effectively in real-life confrontations. While we are proud to be N.A.G.A. Champion School, our emphasis goes beyond tournament success. We teach both tournament legal moves and highly effective, potentially dangerous techniques because we believe that knowing these moves could one day save a life.
Students often ask if a move is "legal" because we teach a range of techniques, some of which may cause serious injury. We prioritize safety above all else, ensuring that all training is conducted slowly and step-by-step to maintain a 100% injury-free environment. Our students learn from each other in a supportive atmosphere where the focus is on mutual growth and learning.
If you're tired of the same old moves and want to learn something different that works both in tournaments and real-life situations, or if you've never tried grappling and ground fighting but want to learn effective self-defense, we invite you to schedule a visit with us. Our unique approach to martial arts training has drawn students with years of prior experience to our school, and we're proud to offer something special to the central Texas community. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our martial arts family.
